Drake takes most-streamed title on Spotify

Toronto’s own Drake, the Weeknd and Justin Bieber have been dominating the singles charts in North America for the latter half of the year, so it should probably be no surprise that the Canadian trio are all over music streaming platform Spotify’s year-end list of most streamed songs and albums.

After clocking 100 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, Toronto’s self-proclaimed 6 God can add Spotify’s “most streamed artist of 2015” to his CV. Forty-six million listeners streamed Drake 1.8 billion times, enough to beat out last year’s most streamed artist, Ed Sheeran.

Meanwhile, Stratford’s finest, Justin Bieber, set a record with the most streams in a single day: 36 million on November 13. And 60 million listeners streamed Toronto pop star the Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness album, making it the most streamed album of the year. Drake’s mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late came in at number two.

Drake and the Weeknd also racked up tons of Grammy nominations, which were announced December 7. The Weeknd got seven, including for album of the year, and Drake was close behind with five.
