Embassy

Rating: NNNNN

VIBE No longer only home to quirky, low-key cheap businesses, Kensington Market is changing. There are now a few upscale lounges, presumably catering to the crowd from new condos and the overflowing College strip. Embassy is a narrow bar with the feel of a chic party in a small loft. Weekends see capacity crowds of well-dressed 30-somethings drinking and chatting while CD DJs play eclectic tunes. Nice decor, cute lighting and a mini-patio out front.

VALUE There’s no cover (there usually isn’t for lounges like this), and the drinks are reasonable for this type of place if expensive compared to the rest of the Market. Good selection of microbrews.

BATHROOMS Like the rest of the bar, the bathrooms are decorated tastefully and creatively. (Dig the caution tape on the low parts of the ceiling.) However, on the very busy night we visited, they weren’t particularly clean.

LINEUP If they start getting picky about capacity, you may find lineups outside. For now, you should be able to walk right in.
