On her minimalist sound:

“It’s the most direct. It just, like, whacks you in the face in a really great way. I’m not really very jazzy. I like to say less, hear less music and enjoy the space.”

On what she learned making her latest album, Rub:

“You don’t need any outboard gear. You can do everything. Even our friends like David Scott Stone, who is a total gear-head – he used to be in LCD Soundsystem, and he was really shocked that none of this was done with outboard gear.”

On Pride festivals:

“Pride is more about sponsorship at this point, and it represents how non-queer people can show they’re allies with their corporate sponsorship. That’s what Pride festivals have become. I’m not being cynical that’s just what they’ve become.”

On the petition to remove Kanye West from the Pan Am Games closing ceremony bill, which also included Pitbull:

“Pitbull represents nothing. He’s the most vanilla. Like, there’s nothing. I would petition him before Kanye West any day. He’s 16 bars of bullshit all the time.”
