This long-awaited sophomore disc sure isn’t “early!” like Freeway’s catchphrase, but it’s nice to hear the Gil Scott-Heron-inspired album opener. It’s the story of his rise to power through grinding his gritty words into the powder that he sniffs up, giving him a clenched jaw that’s as tight as a closed fist and ready to punch your head off.
Freeway spits “Back without a track from Kanye, it’s all good” before triumphantly riding the Kanye-like Bink! blazer Still Got Love, and improves the formula with the amazing When They Remember. It’s mostly a powerful affair, save for the J.R. Rotem-produced synth scar featuring 50 Cent getting his Ja Rule on, Freeway doesn’t say much you don’t expect, but how he says it is compelling.
