Fucked Up jam with Habs organist Diane Bibaud

In recent years, Toronto hardcore band Fucked Up have spread their talents well beyond the local punk scene, working on an experimental opera and the soundtrack for a silent film.

Their latest endeavour is a collaboration with long-time Montreal Canadiens organist Diane Bibaud for the hockey anthem Stick And Punk.

Red Bull Music Academy – which is currently underway in Montreal – fostered the collaboration of the prolific indie group and Bibaud, whose old-school organ stylings have accompanied Habs games for the past 29 years.

In an interview with Red Bull Music, Bibaud said she wasn’t sure about Fucked Up when she heard their music, but she instantly took to them after they met. They jammed together, tried out a few covers, and Stick And Punk was born.

“The Fucked Up group, when I saw it on the internet, I said, ‘Gee whiz, they’re on drugs,’” she told Red Bull. “I was so pleased and honoured after talking to them: these guys are parents, they’re intelligent, they’ve got something else in life, and really, it’s a big challenge for them to have a group.

“I couldn’t believe that they could make some – excuse my expression – fucked-up music with my hockey chants,” she added. “I was dying of laughter, and we had a good feeling to play together.”
