Fucked Up Polaris Prize

The news that T.O. hardcore heroes Fucked Up won the 2009 Polaris Music Prize for their groundbreaking album The Chemistry Of Common Life was met with a mix of surprise and relief by most of the nation’s music critics Monday night.

This year’s competition was strong, and most ofthe other contenders were much more musically conservative and accessible.

After winning, Fucked Up announced that they plan to use the $20,000 prize to make a benefit recording to raise awareness about the estimated 500 aboriginal women missing in Canada – making it difficult for the less punk-friendly to hate on them for their extraordinary success.
