This NXNE seemed like the year of hyped-up weirdo rock bands from Brooklyn, which wasn’t really a bad thing, aside from feeling like we were giving in to the hipster cliché.
The three girls and equal number of boys in Golden Triangle certainly have that look, but don’t hate them for it, as their amped-up take on surf and girl group sounds is actually quite enjoyable, even for those that wouldn’t be caught dead in day glo. They’re good fun live, but don’t quite live up to the charm of the recordings yet, which was surprising as their studio work is pleasingly raw and underproduced.
