Starting From Scratch
Toronto has tons of mesmerizing turntablists, but despite their dazzling technique, few are adept at actually rocking the dance floor. On the flip side, a great number of working DJs can throw down a paint-by-numbers set of club bangers but aren't injecting much creativity or substance into the format.
This is where Starting From Scratch comes in. He's not only got the turntable skills to pay the bills, but he's also got a tight grip on what it takes to get a party started and has some deep record crates to pull from.
Yeah, it's a bit odd for an alt-weekly like NOW to be commending a DJ who plays on commercial radio, but his FLOW 93.5 gig is one of the few radio shows keeping the tradition of live DJing alive on the mainstream airwaves.
