Qui w/ David Yow
Lee's Palace (529 Bloor West), tonight (Thursday, October 4)
Former Jesus Lizard frontman David Yow claims he's too old to be crowd-surfing naked at shows with his new band, Qui. But we all know that when the beer goes in, Yow's clothes come off. Should be a rock 'em, sock 'em delight.
Tyvek, Health, Destroyorg
Sneaky Dee's (431 College), Friday (October 5)
With Jay Reatard over at the Silver Dollar while Detroit's dynamic Tyvek tear up Sneaky Dee's, you can expect more punk rocker traffic than usual on College Friday night. Don't be alarmed if you see hazmat suits - they're probably just Tyvek's peeps.
Black Mountain, Oakley Hall, Cave Singers
The Horseshoe (370 Queen West), Friday (October 5)
The new Black Mountain disc won't be out until January, and they're not from Montreal, but here's your chance to get a look at a 2008 Polaris Prize favourite before the nominee ballots are even sent out. That Oakley Hall and the Cave Singers are on the bill means there'll be little room at the 'Shoe to breathe.
Mitzi's Sister (1554 Queen West), Monday (October 8)
Hot on the heels of True North's snazzy remastering/repackaging of Catherine MacLellan's brilliant Church Bell Blues disc from 2006, the supremely gifted singer/songwriter swings into town for a low-key show at Mitzi's Sister Monday. Don't dare miss it.
