Humber : music notes

COVER : Eat, drink

Rating: NNNNN

Music fans at Humber should invest in a Metropass and head on over the Queen West. Mitzi’s Sister (1554 Queen West, 416-532-2570) is an unpretentious joint with good food, reasonably priced booze and a sweet floor-level stage where local and touring pop, roots and folk artists perform every night.

The Cadillac Lounge (1296 Queen West, 416-536-7717) is your go-to destination for country, roots and rockabilly shindigs. Across the street, Stone’s Place (1255 Queen West, 416-536-4242) has random hiphop and rock shows in addition to dance parties like queer-hop night Big Primpin’.

The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen West, 416-531-4635) offers live music, hilarious karaoke and swingin’ parties in its Melody and Art Bars and Ballroom. Stumble down the block to the Beaver (1192 Queen West, 416-537-2768), the bar-slash-restaurant-slash-lounge that’s defiantly pansexual and a great place to launch your QUG (Queer Until Graduation) career while listening to rad DJs.

Saturday lineups for the Drake ‘s (1150 Queen West, 416-531-5042) Lounge are total clusterfucks, rammed with Beautiful People, the live club, the Underground , attracts fewer poseurs with its upscale rec room ambience and solid schedule of indie-ish rock.
