Muskox
There’s no shortage of talented jazz musicians in Toronto, but never enough of the genuinely adventurous sort willing to mess with conventions. Among the more exciting anomalies on the local scene are Muskox, a refreshingly unpretentious group of U of T grads who came together with an unusual combination of instruments (banjo, electric piano, harmonium) to create an entrancing minimalist sound of their own, completely unbound by tradition. So far they self-released three astonishingly good 3-inch CD EPs with aspirations of one day releasing a proper-sized CD. We can only hope.
