Celebrate Joe Strummer Day on December 22

College Street pub the Old Laurel (300 College) is marking the 14th anniversary of Clash frontman Joe Strummer’s death on Tuesday (December 22) with a day of Strummer-related music and a special Strummer-themed menu by owner/chef Davy Love.

The proceeds from Joe Strummer Day go to the Joe Strummer Foundation, which has officially sanctioned the event. The organization promotes anti-poverty initiatives and provides support to musicians and educators. It was set up following the punk legend’s death in 2002.

The festivities begin at 3 pm and run through 2 am. The pub will play all eight episodes of Strummer’s BBC Radio show London Calling and screen the documentaries Let’s Rock Again, The Future Is Unwritten and The Clash New Year’s Day 1977.

Later in the evening, the Kensington Hillbillies will don their alter egos the Crooked Beat and play more than two hours of Clash- and Strummer-related music.
