Kanye West performed in Toronto as recently as last July during both the Pan Am Games closing ceremony and at OVO Fest, but that was before The Life Of Pablo, his seventh album, came out in mid-February to critical raves (including 5Ns from NOW).
Besides, those appearances were mere teasers. We’ll get full-production, full-length sets when his just-announced Saint Pablo Tour stops at the Air Canada Centre on August 30 and 31. Maybe even a Drake cameo – which happened on the second Toronto date of his Yeezus tour back in 2013.
Expect more than Pablo cuts. The hip-hop superstar’s latest single, Champions, is actually from his upcoming GOOD Music label compilation, Cruel Winter, the sequel to 2012’s Cruel Summer, and it features Gucci Mane, Big Sean, Yo Gotti, Travis Scott, 2 Chainz and Quavo.
Seeing as fans have several months to process the tour news, we shouldn’t expect to see a repeat of what happened in New York City on June 6, when a surprise Kanye performance at the Governors Ball fest had to be cancelled because thousands of ape-shit fans created near-riot conditions.
Finally, if his recent Pablo pop-up shops are any indication, expect his merch game to be on fire.
