Listen to Feist cover The Tragically Hip’s Flamenco

When news broke that Tragically Hip front man Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, well wishes poured in from fans, musicians and writers.

Among those to pay tribute is Leslie Feist. The Toronto-based musician recorded a beautiful acoustic rendition of The Tragically Hip’s 1996 song Flamenco that she shared on social media.

“For Gord. We’ll all be there this summer to see you bring out the new songs with your singular guts and panache and the golden oldies that are so golden” she wrote in posts accompanying the song on Facebook and Soundcloud. “All my respect, admiration and love, Leslie.”

On Tuesday, May 24, The Tragically Hip announced they are embarking on an 11-date Canadian tour this summer in support of their upcoming Man Machine Poem album. The tour includes two shows at the Air Canada Centre on August 11 and 12.

“After 30-some years together as The Tragically Hip, thousands of shows, and hundreds of tours… We’ve decided to do another one,” the band wrote on their website. “This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us.”
