LOWER at Cherry Cola’s Rock n’ Rolla (200 Bathurst), Saturday (June 15), 2 am and at the Garrison (1197 Dundas West), Sunday (June 16), 11 pm. Both NXNE wristband or $12. nxne.com.
Denmark’s Lower only have a handful of songs on their Bandcamp page (including their excellently titled Walk On Heads EP) but are already rising in a thriving Copenhagen punk community that includes current tour mates Iceage as well as Vår (in which members of both bands perform).
The four-piece – whose debut album drops later this year – is playing the last night of the festival, so save the dregs of your energy for their downcast, in-your-face, post-punk-meets-1980s-hardcore songs.
Iceage’s Elias Bender Rønnenfelt once told the New York Times that it was “almost annoying they could be so good.”
To go, or not to go: it’s not even a question.
If you like Lower, also check out Iceage at the Horseshoe, Saturday (June 15), midnight or Nu Sensae at the Horseshoe, tonight (Thursday, June 13), 1 am, both NXNE wristband or $15, and at Parts & Labour, Friday (June 14), midnight, NXNE wristband or $12.
