Nada’s Surf’s major label experience is a common one, even in Canada. Here are a couple of Canuck acts who have signed the big contract only to be unceremoniously dumped when their albums tanked.

Who: Sloan

Major label life: Nova Scotia’s Nirvana was singed to Geffen, but when Twice Removed wasn’t up to par, they were sent packing.

And now: Released on Murder Records, Twice Removed ended up being a big hit after all. And we all know what’s happened since then.

Who: 54-40

Major label life: These no-nonsense rockers have been on a number of majors but were finally dropped by Sony in 2003.

And now: The band found a likeminded partner in True North and released their 11th record, Yes To Everything, in 2005.
