Missing Morrissey

Morrissey recently unveiled the details of his new album and slated world tour in the coming year and unfortunately his pointless policy of punishing Canadian fans appears to still be in place.

[rssbreak]Years of Refusal, Mozzer’s ninth studio album, will drop on February 17 via new label Lost Highway, home to Americana a songwriters like Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson and Ryan Adams.

11 days later, Morrissey kicks off an extensive North American tour starting in the unlikely location of Boca Raton, Florida. The 49-year-old then goes across the United Kingdom, throughout Europe in June and then finishes off in Moscow, Russia.

I count roughly 11 countries over six months on this world tour and not a single Canadian date. Nope, our seal hunt-loving country must still be on Morrissey’s boycott books. In case you forgot, the former Smiths crooner vilified Canada in 2006 with a statement of protest in regards to seal hunting.

Morrissey’s passion for animal rights is admirable but this stand he continues to take against Canada is neither effective nor very considerate to the fans that support his career. It’s true clubbing seals is an act of cruelty, but is he telling us that, of those 11 countries on his tour itinerary, there are no other animal rights offenders? Why are we being singled out?

Morrissey could be more effective in this crusade by actually playing shows here and getting all Bono on the situation by making politicians hear him out. If he cares that much, then come play an anti-seal hunting benefit show and maybe try provoking change that way, instead of giving his fans the cold shoulder. Because, at this rate, he might get a few back if ever finally shows his jowly mug in these parts.
