As one-half of Bardo Pond's Gibbons brothers guitar team, the no-wave-schooled Michael Gibbons has taken the Philadelphia-based drug rockers from crushing onslaughts of psychedelic spoo to the unsettling quiet of their current album, Dilate (Matador). They may have turned down the volume a few clicks, but they've ratcheted up the tension to create a more palpable vibe of dope-addled paranoia. It's no wonder that Mogwai chose Bardo Pond to join them on their current tour, which rolls into the Phoenix Sunday (May 27).
