nomeansno hold off hansons

Rating: NNNNN

The fact that even nomeansno fans find performances by the group’s hockey hoser alter-ego the Hanson Brothers a better brew-hoisting night out hasn’t stopped Victoria’s artcore survivors from banging their heads against the punk rock, touring behind their sprawling new One (Alternative Tentacles) album.

To placate that Hanson Brothers following, they’ve cut a cover of the Ramones set staple Beat On The Brat. But that’ll have to do until 2002, when the Hansons will make a triumphant return to coincide with the Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games, er hopefully.

“We might need to work on some songs for a new record first,” laughs bassist Rob Wright. “Different people are talking about doing this and that, but it’s not going to happen at all unless we can come up with some decent lyrics and hooks. The joke just isn’t funny unless the songs are great.”NOMEANSNO with REMOVAL and ROCKET SCIENCE, at Lee’s Palace (529 Bloor West), Friday (November 24). $13. 532-1598.TIM PERLICH
