The Toronto Jazz Festival (June 25 to July 4) continues to stretch the definition of jazz this year, but we’re not complaining if that means we get great acts like hip-hop legends the Roots (June 29, Nathan Phillips Square), soul queen Bettye LaVette (June 29, Phoenix) and world blues visionary Taj Mahal (June 27, Nathan Phillips Square). Jazz purists don’t need to worry about being left out, though, with appearances by Herbie Hancock (June 26, Nathan Phillips Square), Keith Jarrett (June 30, Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts) and many others.
