Ty Dolla $ign’s set was interesting, to be certain, but it was mostly buoyed by lowest common denominator crowd interaction, faux weed hype and tired gimmicks.
Ty, for one song, held up a real fat blunt, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who saw him take a hit of it. Besides that, he took his shirt off and got the crowd to yell “fuck you!” and “suck my dick, bitch!” and just generally lowered IQs in the immediate area.
Shad burst out with something better: a whip-smart set of crowd-pleasers featuring, for Love Means, Eternia. Where Ty was cheap and tired, Shad picked up the slack.
