Owen Pallett curates New Creations Fest

Owen Pallett mused about working with Tanya Tagaq in the future during his co-headlining Massey Hall show with the throat singer last fall.

So far, nothing of the sort has been forthcoming, but the violinist and composer has included a new work by Tagaq and composer Christine Duncan in the 2017 edition of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s New Creations Festival.

Pallett is guest-curating the event along with TSO musical director Peter Oundjian. The lineup also includes new works by Pallett, Mica Levi, Jordan Pal, Cassandra Miller and Nicole Lizée, performed by Kronos Quartet.

Rounding out the bill are performances by Yefim Bronfman of Jörg Widmann’s Trauermarsch for piano and orchestra, a Canadian premiere, and by James Ehnes of Pulitzer Prize winner Aaron Jay Kernis’s violin concerto.

The New Creations Festival takes place March 4 to 11, 2017. For complete details on the orchestra’s 2016-17 season, visit tso.ca.
