The 2013 Polaris Music Prize contenders have been narrowed from 40 to 10. The shortlist was announced this morning at the Drake Hotel among nominees, jurors and music media. Polaris darlings of past Metric and post-hardcore trio METZ were the local bands who made the hotly debated cut (see your Twitter feed for both positive and negative reaction).
Local music fanatics will also recognize Zaki Ibrahim, who was a scene regular in the 2000s, though she now lives in South Africa. Past NOW cover stars Tegan & Sara and A Tribe Called Red also made the cut, amidst a field that represents Canadian talent from Montreal, Nanaimo, Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Hamilton.
