After wowing Toronto audiences with two sold-out solo shows at the Sony Centre on Friday night, March 25 – that included covers of David Bowie, Bob Marley and Joni Mitchell – Prince continued the music with an early-morning mini-set at King West club the Everleigh.
According to several tweets and a post on PrinceVault.com, the Purple One turned up at his official after-party, but just a handful of fans were still there by the time he took the stage. He often books after-shows, but it’s not a given that he’ll perform.
Doors opened at 10 pm, and Prince appeared at around 2:30 am. After addressing the crowd – “How about we hit up Rogers Centre?” he reportedly said – his equipment was taken down.
Most people left, and the Everleigh began to close up when he decided to perform for staff, owners and their remaining friends. His keyboard was set up again and he played an eight-song set that included A Love Bizarre and Sexy Dancer at 4:15 am.
“He was still at the club and did not have a hotel booked, simply waiting there for his 6 am flight home,” according to a post on PrinceVault.com.
