Hotline Bling director to receive Prism Prize honour

Music video helmer Director X, aka Julien Christian Lutz, is the recipient of this year’s Prism Prize Special Achievement Award.

The Toronto native formerly known as Little X has directed music videos for a who’s who of major Canadian and American pop, hip-hop and R&B artists since the late 1990s.

His videography includes Drake’s viral smash Hotline Bling, Rihanna’s current number one hit Work, Iggy Azalea’s 2014 summer anthem Fancy, as well as Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend, Cassie’s Me & U, Sean Paul’s Get Busy, Usher’s Yeah, 112’s Peaches And Cream, Jay-Z’s Excuse Me Miss, Kanye West’s The New Workout Plan and Ice Cube’s You Can Do It, among many others.

His debut feature film, Across The Line, is currently playing in Toronto cinemas.

Director X will be on hand at the Prism Prize awards presentation in Toronto on May 16 to pick up the honour, which is given to a Canadian music video artist for “their artistic achievements and exceptional contribution to music video art on a world stage,” according to organizers.

Hotline Bling is also among the 10 videos on the shortlist for this year’s best Canadian music video prize.
