SALVADOR DARLING 1237 Queen West, 416-534-0488
This stylish small lounge nestled in the "nice" section of East Parkdale is decorated with an offbeat flair that somehow evokes their namesake's paintings without looking like a psychedelic mess. Acoustic bands may use the piano along one wall, but enthusiastic patrons attempting to accompany the DJs also sometimes bang on it on weekend nights.
As Salvador Darling, this is in some ways its third incarnation. Originally it was more of a vintage store, which morphed into a cafe and is now, with a liquor licence, operating as a proper bar once the sun sets.
There's no cover, and a mixed drink will run you $5.50. Don't expect bottle-service booths here, or washroom attendants and a coat check.
CAN YOU DANCE?
There's nothing to suggest they expect dancing, but, surprisingly, some of the rowdier patrons occasionally find space to wiggle their asses.
