Sarah McLachlan

Rating: NN

Hoping to capitalize on the success of her work with Delerium, McLachlan has given her songs to a variety of producers for remixing. Most of them go the schlocky epic trance route, with a couple in the Chemical Brothers big-beat style. The compilation briefly emerges from tackiness on William Orbit’s bizarre sci-fi country dub reworking of Black. This disc will probably fulfill the needs of McLachlan fans looking for a bit of accessible electronica to round out their CD collection — lots of sweeping strings, reverb-drenched vocals, synth noodling, huge snare rolls and 10-minute songs — but like the original material, it tends to come across as goofy when it wants to be emotive.
