SXSW: Surfer Blood

Surfer Blood, a sensitive surf four-piece from West Palm Beach, Florida, must have played nearly every venue in Austin, with 10 shows in less than four days.

Some debate followed them around those venues. Were they overhyped or underrated? At first glance, it’d be easy to dismiss them based on their straitlaced look and sophomoric performance. But sounding like a fuzzier version of Weezer, they pretty much captured all the trends in upswing at the fest. And with hits like Swim and Twin Peaks, they grazed some high notes during the week.

The truth is somewhere in the middle. Surfer Blood are not quite ready for nationwide exposure but are too promising to outright ignore.
