Syp Lounge

Rating: NNNNN

56 Kensington

VIBE Syp is the new name for 56 Kensington, and, like its former incarnation, it’s home to a weird variety of underground nights, from electro-rock to gabber to minimal techno. It’s a small club in a basement, with low ceilings and an obviously do-it-yourself approach to design. Biggest difference from its last incarnation? The black-lit fish tanks are gone.

VALUE Cover charge is usually around $5, and drinks are average for the cheaper end.

BATHROOMS Conditions haven’t improved much. The bathrooms are still only semi-functional, not very clean and on this night women were complaining about the lack of toilet paper.

LINEUP Rare. Chances are it’s just a crowd of smokers you see standing outside. When you do have to wait, it’s inside on the stairs, so it’s not too bad.
