The Weeknd pleads no contest

The Weeknd has pleaded no contest to punching a cop in Las Vegas earlier this year.

The Associated Press reports that the local R&B singer also known as Abel Tesfaye was in a Vegas courtroom on Thursday, October 22, to face a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from his arrest at the Cromwell Hotel.

A judge agreed to dismiss the charge if the 25-year-old singer completes 50 hours of community service and stays out of trouble. He was also ordered to pay $1,000 to a fund for injured police officers, complete an anger management course and undergo alcohol evaluation.

According to media reports, officers were attempting to break up a fight involving Tesfaye when he punched one of them in the head. The officer was not seriously injured, police said.

The Weeknd plays the Air Canada Centre on November 3 and 5.
