This week’s must-see shows: L7, Rheostatics, Crosss and more

L7

There are many band reunions that no one asked for (Queen, we’re looking at you), but the reformation of American grunge group L7 is not one of those.

Last year, the band backed a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund the forthcoming Sarah Price-directed documentary L7: Pretend We’re Dead and surpassed their $97,000 goal with more than $130,000 in donations.

That was reason enough for the original lineup – guitarist/vocalist Donita Sparks, guitarist/vocalist Suzi Gardner, bassist/vocalist Jennifer Finch and drummer/vocalist Demetra Plakas – to embark on L7’s first tour in 15 years.

Whether you’ve been waiting years to jump around to Shitlist and Pretend We’re Dead or are a newly converted fan of L7’s snarling riffs, now is a good time to see them: their set lists are heavy on memorable cuts off 1992’s seminal Bricks Are Heavy.

Moreover, it’s not certain whether this round of tour dates will lead to more, or new material (Sparks recently told SPIN that their day jobs make touring difficult), so this weekend’s rare gig is not to be missed.
