This week’s must-see Toronto shows: March 26-April 1

QUEER SONGBOOK ORCHESTRA

Chamber pop ensemble the Queer Songbook Orchestra have built a repertoire of pop classics significant to LGBTQ listeners, and they’ll perform them at Church of the Holy Trinity on Thursday (March 26).

Led by trumpeter-about-town Shaun Brodie, the 12-piece will debut new arrangements at their third and most ambitious show to date. The format mixes music – including covers of Tracy Chapman and Labi Siffre – with stories and visuals on the theme “Songs of Resilience.”

The songs tap into personal stories shared with the QSO as well as the little-known queer backstories behind well-known American songbook selections.

If you miss the show, the QSO also have a permanent home. Each new arrangement commissioned by the QSO is housed in the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives’ collection through a charitable partnership.

Thursday (March 26), 8 pm, at Church of the Holy Trinity (10 Trinity Square). $25, adv $18. soundscapesmusic.com, eventbrite.com.
