The young, retro R&B band from (you guessed it) Alabama were the centre of a ton of buzz at SXSW this year, and their debut album, Boys & Girls, lived up to the hype. Their grimy back-to-basics soulful rock tunes are reminiscent of Janis Joplin, but less whisky-drenched. As good as their album is, though, you need to catch them live for the full effect.
