This week’s must-see Toronto shows: April 30-May 6

ELI ESCOBAR

Church Street leather bar Black Eagle has renovated its space – including a remodelled dance floor – and started booking high-quality international house acts like New York City house music god Eli Escobar.

The DJ/producer got into music through his love of hip-hop, which sent him on enough successful crate-digging expedition to build an incredible vinyl collection. In the late 90s he produced a series of hip-hop 12-inches before settling into disco and house music production.

Since then, he’s become a go-to remixer for M.I.A., Britney Spears, Diplo and Chromeo, and recently launched his own label, Night People NYC, with partner Blu Jemz.

Rounding out the bill is Dinamo Azari in the opening slot. The former Azari & III member has a classic but contemporary acid/Chicago house sound that brings in plenty of techno, too. So shine up those dancing shoes.

At Black Eagle (457 Church), Saturday (May 2), 10 pm. $5 before midnight, $10 after. At the door only. blackeagletoronto.com.
