April March, Lee's Palace, Wednesday, January 28
Having her van break down in a snowstorm en route from Montreal left April March uncharacteristically glum before her show at Lee's Palace Wednesday. Not even the renovated venue's swank new carpeting, dressing room and fresh coat of paint could pick up her spirits while presenting the bubbly tunes from her great new Triggers (PIAS/Beggars Group) disc. The dishearteningly small turnout probably didn't help matters. On the upside, thanks to the newly elevated stage it was possible to see April March mope through the motions from any vantage point in the club. Reno money well spent.
Upcoming, Gash, February 5
It's a tragic day for rock sluts everywhere as dreamy Gash guitarist Deuce Diamond temporarily hangs up his axe and heads out east to spend some quality time with his wife and new baby twins. Diamond's last show with raw, electrifying rock-and-rollers Gash happens tonight at the 360 , with Calculator and the Oral Presentation .
The likes of Gene Simmons and Wilt Chamberlain once had nothing on Diamond when it came to womanizing. The now reformed bad boy faithfully photographed the breasts of every one of his thousands of conquests over the better part of a decade and placed the pictures in his infamous Album Of Boobies.
"Those days are over," says Diamond. "I don't need any mementoes of that other life."
