Upcoming, Paper Bag Records anniversary show, September 30, Lee's
To celebrate two years of putting out much-praised, high-quality Cancon, including albums by Broken Social Scene, Stars and Hawaii, Toronto-based label Paper Bag invades Lee's Palace with a sweet lineup showcasing where they're at right now, seeing as BSS have shot to stardom and Stars and Hawaii have left the label.
Witness performances by Berlin-based Torontonian Jake Fairley , the Uncut , Magneta Lane and controller.controller, with bon mots tossed around between bands by NOW contributor Nick Flanagan , in a bit of a send-off before the bands play Pop Montreal and Quebec City.
"It's two years, man. Most businesses don't last that long," says the label's Amanda Newman , adding wistfully, "Two years - and I'm still broke."
Bring along a non-perishable food donation to help the hungry.
