Matt & Kim get ready to rock NXNE.
One thing's for certain: the 2009 version of North By Northeast is definitely not playing it safe. That's clear from the information doled out at the music festival and conference's official press meet last week.
This is the year of weirdo rock, with many of the bigger name acts coming from the noisy avant-garde end of the spectrum, including No Age, Health, Japanther, These Are Powers and AIDS Wolf.

Arts & Crafts hosts a two-night stand at the Courthouse showcasing the label's roster and several Broken Social Scene offshoot projects, plus some surprise special guests.
Good news for those who don't like to shut it down early: this year sets a record for late-night liquor licences. A whopping 28 venues will serve alcohol into the wee hours.
