Tory Lanez brings his Memories Don’t Die tour to Toronto: Just announced concerts

Plus: the Outlaw Music Festival featuring Willie Nelson and Sturgill Simpson, the return of Venus Fest and a CMW show at Lower Bay Station

Drake and the Weeknd get a lot of attention for representing Toronto on the world map of hip-hop and R&B, but Tory Lanez is proving to be nearly as reliable a hitmaker, and his latest album, Memories Don’t Die, is selling fast.

The Brampton crooner is going on a major tour of North America and Europe in support of the versatile new album, which is flush with both pop crossovers and harder-edged rap tracks with featured artists like NAV, 50 Cent and Future.

The tour takes him to Rebel for an all-ages show on July 4. He always brings some extra energy for his hometown shows, and considering how much more time he spends surfing the crowd than onstage, that’s saying a lot.

Maybe we can even expect a cameo or two. The last time he played here, we got a surprise and raucous singalong with local rappers Killy, CMDWN, Puffy L’z, Smoke Dawg and Jazz Cartier, so who knows who he might summon this time?

July 4 at Rebel (11 Polson). Doors 7 pm, all ages. $45-$60.,
