London DJ Russ Dewbury's office partner and the man to go to when you want to know what tracks are blowing up in Japan. Weston spins jazzy grooves and more at the third installment of Ecoutez at Una Mas Friday (August 17).
Last great thing you heard?
Agent K, a forthcoming project on Laws of Motion. Awesome music that had my spine tingling on first listen.
Your flat's on fire. What do you grab from the record room?
I try to put the bloody fire out! I've got too many records to stop and think, 'What would I miss more, this or that?'
Any tips on what the next great record out of Japan's going to be?
There's lots happening, especially in the underground, with artists like Calm, Chari Chari, Jazztronik and Muro. There's a great Mondo Grosso remix album coming out, and UFO have just done a remix of Sarah Vaughan singing Summertime.
Most you've ever paid for a record in Japan?
Not much. I buy most of my stuff from dealers. Pressings are very limited, so you have to act fast or miss out. Japanese vinyl has beautiful, thick colour sleeves and remixes only found on Japanese pressings. It gives the record an almost mystical status to sad trainspotters like me.
Tell us something about Russ Dewbury we don't know.
His wife Leonie is pregnant with his first child. Exclusive! Shhh! You didn't hear it from me!
