Were there any lingering questions as to whether Vienna mood magicians Kruder & Dorfmeister are just another duo making dreamy head-nodding music, the new G-Stone Book should set the record straight.
Compiled as a memento of the group's mammoth tour supporting 1998's epic K&D Sessions, the lavishly packaged book and CD reveal Kruder & Dorfmeister more as an aesthetic than two guys with cool beats. From their G-Stoned bunker, Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister run a record label, recording studio, design company and clothing line. Everything, including their downtempo beats and the radical remixes they've done for people like Madonna, Roni Size and Depeche Mode, operates under the concept of "chilled."
Chilling out apparently takes time. Three years after the K&D Sessions, the duo are still at work on a full-length follow-up. They're taking a short break to spin their best fusion, funk and dub records here on Friday (July 6).
The highly anticipated gig serves as the official reopening of the Warehouse as the inexplicably named Kool Haus.
Surely, though, someone must have realized that any potential hipster appeal inherent in the word "cool" in the club's new name was negated by spelling it with a "k." But who knows, maybe it's all part of a clever scheme to access the largely untapped German club kid market.
