Who else

Cutting the original list down to just 10 artists wasn’t as easy as you might think, thanks to the large amount of talent in this town. We asked everyone we did select who they would have put on the list, and they came up with a mind-boggling 36 more candidates.

The local artist most often cited was easily More Proof’s Gingy. His high-octane rave-ups pound hard over a club system and balance his love of noise with catchy riffs.

Also garnering votes from several of our acts was Alias, who’s been getting some love from folks like Brooklyn’s Drop the Lime and is rumoured to be working on a project with UK producer Foamo.

Deadmau5 and MSTRKRFT both had people vouching for them, but they’re way too big right now to qualify as up-and-coming. They have, however, opened doors for a lot of Toronto artists.

T.O.’s techno and tech house scene got some love from a few folks. Noah Pred, Nitin and Jonny White and Repair all got nods.

On the artsier indie side, musicians like Sandro Perri (aka Polmo Polpo), I Am Robot and Proud, Opopo and Stop Die Resuscitate all got noticed by our panel.

No matter who you’re asking, everyone agrees that Toronto has dance music talent bubbling up from the underground at this moment in time.
