Forty-one per cent of Canadians feel Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s salary is too high, while only 18 per cent are aware of his overall earnings at all, a new study says.

Less than one in five of those surveyed think the prime minister’s annual earnings are between $301,000 to $400,000, according to the Research Co. study

Forty-two per cent thought Trudeau earned less than $301,000, while 24 per cent assumed he made higher than $400,000.

Well, if you were wondering, Trudeau’s annual compensation is $379,000. And according to the study, two in five Canadians thought that salary was too much for Canada’s leader, while 47 per cent believed the amount was “about right.”

“Only 9% of Liberal Party voters in the last federal election believe the prime minister’s salary is higher than $500,000 a year,” Mario Canseco, president of Research Co., said in a news release. “The proportion is higher among those who supported the Conservative Party (17%) and the New Democratic Party (NDP) (19%) in 2021.”

In Ontario, 39 per cent of surveyors believe Trudeau’s earnings exceed a reasonable amount in comparison to 52 per cent in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba, 51 per cent in Alberta, 41 per cent in British Columbia and 35 per cent in Quebec.

In 2021, Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s annual salary was $208,974 and former Toronto Mayor John Tory’s salary was $197,316 that same year.

The results from this online study were obtained from Feb. 9 to 11, among 1,000 adults in Canada. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
