CAFE TACUBA Un Viaje (Universal Latino)
Recorded live in 2004, a really awesome collection of Mexico's Café Tacuba's work, with something from every album over the years, including rock, reggae, folk, traditional Latin and hiphop influences. Proof that multi-influence melting-pot bands don't always have to be reduced to cheese.
COURTNEY WING Starlight Shuffle (independent)
Folksy singer/songwriter à la Dylan who cut his teeth learning stuff like reggae and flamenco has a compelling, progressive experimental side, with world and Latin jazzy influences. Mostly pretty light, mellow stuff with a dreamy edge, like road trip lullabies.
JACK JOHNSON In Between Dreams (Brushfire)
Surfer dude Johnson is just a feel-good-music-on-the-beach, barefoot, watching-the-sun-go-down kind of guy, and doesn't every guy who lives in his van like to frolic barefoot on the beach at sunset?
MATISYAHU Live At Stubbs (Or.Music)
Possibly the world's first Orthodox Jewish reggae musician, something the world didn't know it needed until Matisyahu came along. With its backing band of nice Jewish boys, this is intelligent dancehall with biblical and religious imagery, which van guy will appreciate because he once took a course in world religion, so he knows who both Haile Selassie and Moses are.
GORGOL BORDELLO Gypsy Punks (Sideonedummy)
Rockin' offering from the kings of Roma punk. Non-stop action in rock, metal, ska 'n' other styles, with titles van guy can relate to like Think Locally Fuck Globally. Yeah, the bombardment gets really annoying after a while, but so does van guy.
