Atom Egoyan

On the eve of the premiere of his second feature, Speaking Parts, at the Festival Of Festivals (now TIFF), filmmaker Atom Egoyan was developing a reputation for films touching on themes of sex, technology and alienation – stories told with an eerie, distancing sensibility (page 22 of the issue). He went on to snag director and screenplay Oscar noms for his 1997 The Sweet Hereafter and has since also pursued his passion for the stage. His spectacular version of Salome is playing at the Four Seasons (see review), and Luminato has just announced that the Chinese opera Feng Yi Ting, directed by Egoyan, is part of the fest June 20 to 22.
