Now that the weather’s turned, homeless people need even more of our attention. Head to the Mod Club, 722 College, on Saturday (December 17) from 6 to 10 pm for the One Luv Benefit Concert, when TIKA, Andres Sierra, DIXON and others perform to benefit homeless LGBTQ youth. $20, advance $15. eventbrite.ca.
2. IGNITE THE NIGHT AT KENSINGTON MARKET SOLSTICE PARADE
The darkest and longest night of the year brings out the brightest at the 27th annual Kensington Market Winter Solstice parade on Wednesday (December 21). Red Pepper Spectacle Arts provides the pageantry, you provide the light. Lanterns for $12 go on sale on the steps of St. Stephen’s Community House, 260 Augusta, starting at 4 pm. Or bring your own handmade creations. Meet at Oxford and Augusta at 6:30 pm. Parade starts at 7 pm. It’s a commercial-free event.
3. SUPPORT INDIGENOUS ART
If you’re looking for unique gifts for the holiday season or just want to shop -local and support Indigenous artisans, then the Native Canadian Centre Sunday Marketplace is the place to be on Sunday (December 18), from 11 am to 4 pm. Works by local artists and carvers, including moccasins and beadwork as well as honey and other wares will be on offer. Free. 16 Spadina Road. ncct.on.ca.
