Big 3: Ecobunk bash

1. Ecobunk bash

The extent to which humans trash the planet is just not funny, but that hasn’t stopped the Toronto Environmental Alliance from making its major fundraiser a comedy show. Besides, corporate greenwashing strategies – which receive mock awards at the event – are sometimes so ludicrous it is to laugh. This year’s EcoBunk extravagnaza – its 25th anniversary – at Lula Lounge on Thursday (December 3) features comics Keesha Brownie, Nile Seguin, Alex Nussbaum, a silent auction and more. 1585 Dundas West. Doors 6:30 pm. $20-$25. torontoenvironment.org.

2. Women Won’t Forget

And neither should anyone else. On the 25th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, a vigil commemorates the 14 women who perished in Marc Lépine’s rampage at École Polytechnique in 1989, and all women who have been victims of violence in Canada, with a native healing ceremony, spoken word performances and music. Bring a rose and candle to Philosopher’s Walk (Bloor and Avenue Road behind the ROM). Sunday (December 6), 6 pm. Free. womenwontforget.org.

3Profiling religious profiling

The Urban Alliance on Race Relations marks International Human Rights Day Thursday (December 10) with a talk by Remi Warner, senior policy analyst at the Ontario Human Rights Commission, on the growing problem of religious profiling, the targeting of individuals of a specific religion based on the assumption they are more likely to be criminals or terrorists. The event is co-sponsored by the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants, among others. 6 pm. 2 Carlton, suite 1001. Free. Pre-register at religiousprofiling.eventbrite.com
