Learn how the Mayan Q’eqchi are resisting mining interests in Guatemala at a screening of Defensora, a documentary on the subject, followed by a Q&A. 2. Water world

The shocking facts about how much water we use – and what we can do to save the planet’s most precious resource – is the focus of a talk Thursday (June 25) by Stephen Leahy, the guy who wrote the book on the subject (Your Water Footprint). 3. Community culture day

The Centre for Immigrant and Community Services, a Scarborough mainstay for new arrivals for going on five decades, puts the city’s cultural uniqueness front and centre in a pre-Canada Day Community Culture Day afternoon featuring performances by area high school students, information booths, a community garden tour and more.
