1. GET THOSE GIRLS ROCKIN’

Some girl rockers are born that way others need encouragement. But all of them have to hone their chops. That’s what Girls Rock Camp is for. It creates an environment in which aspiring female musicians can take their skills to the next level. A 90s Video Dance Party with DJ Caff and Loving in the Name Of raises funds for Girls Rock Camp Toronto on Saturday (April 16) at the Gladstone, 1214 Queen West, at 10 pm. $15, adv $10. ticketfly.com.

2. FIGHT FOR $15 AND FAIRNESS

Communities across the province mobilize Friday (April 15), in a Pan-Canadian Day of Action demanding a $15 minimum wage. Workers converge on the offices of the Ontario Ministry of Labour, 400 University, at 12:30 pm. The ministry is currently reviewing workplace legislation, and a report and recommendations are due this summer. Actions are also planned for the Barrie office of Labour Minister Ann Hoggarth, and Finance Minister Charles Sousa in Mississauga. Spread the word on social media with the hashtags #15andFairness and #OntarioWeWant. Info at 15andfairness.org/take-action.

3. ENVIRO FUTURE

Environment movement veterans John Bennett and Dan McDermott discuss their involvement in the fight dating back to the 70s, when Greenpeace co-founder Bob Hunter set them on the path to activism. They deliver this year’s Bob Hunter Memorial Lecture at U of T’s Earth Sciences Library, 5 Bancroft, room ES149, on Thursday (April 14) at 4 pm. Should make for an inspiring warm-up for Earth Day.
