Bloody find

Rating: NNNNN

a resident near a butcher shop on Gerrard has complained to the city health department about open bins containing raw meat being left out on the sidewalk.Louise Pohle-Bjolin says she called the health department several times after walking past the Lahore Halal Meat Market and noticing the open containers.

“The bins will just appear there full of the meat,” she says, “and the next day they’ll be gone.”

The store’s Iftakhar Mazir says the bins are filled with refuse meat and bones, and he puts them out on Monday and Thursday evenings so they can be collected the next morning.

“We have to put them out one night before the pickup,” says Mazir.

City officials say meat must be kept in sealed containers.

“Any garbage like that has to be sealed to prevent any attraction to rodents,” says city health official Chris Komorowski.
