In a post on his blog earlier today, broadcaster and veteran personality of 102.1 the Edge Dave “Bookie” Bookman announced that he was leaving the station. Addressing “Edge family, friends and listeners,” Bookman wrote that, “Having the privilege to share the evolution of new music with all of you has been a wonderful experience.”
Bookman’s friend and fellow 102.1 vet Alan Cross, calling Bookie “the last of the old timers” told NOW that he remembers his colleague as “a brilliant interviewer.” Cross also assured us that Bookman’s leaving was his own decision.
“His passion for music runs through ever molecule in his body,” Cross wrote to us in an e-mail. “He may not be the most polished announcer, but so what? His enthusiasm and knowledge and love for Toronto more than made up for that. I started out being a co-worker then evolved to being his boss. Loved him then, love him now.”
Bookman is currently on holiday, but says he will return “for a final sing-a-long” on The Edge December 20th at noon.
